Frequently Asked Questions
The breakee emergency electronic window breaker enables emergency exits from passenger transport vehicles to be opened in an emergency. This innovative product, developed by aguila and produced in france, has been on the market since 2024.
It meets the new requirements of series 10 of regulation r107, which aims to improve the evacuation of people and smoke in the event of an emergency, and which comes into force in september 2026.
Incorporating it on board greatly reduces the likelihood of a tragedy on the scale of puisseguin occurring on passenger transport vehicles.
As a passenger: lift the safety flap on a breakee and press the button. Within 10 seconds, and unless overridden by the driver, the emergency exit will be released.
As the driver: lift the “break” button flap at the driver’s station and push the switch forward. Within 10 seconds, all the emergency exits will be released.
As breakee is fixed directly to the emergency exits, it is guaranteed to be available at all times. It also reduces the risk of vandalism linked to the theft or misuse of pick hammers. Simple and effortless, it can be used by anyone.
Breakee can be installed in all passenger transport vehicles (coaches and buses) with more than 10 seats. It can easily be installed:
- As original equipment on new vehicles
- As a retrofit on vehicles already in use

Breakee switches itself on and off when the vehicle is switched on. The driver doesn’t have to worry about it. They can also put it on standby if they need to leave their driving position for a while.
Breakee is designed to prevent misuse:
- It cannot be used above 3 km/h.
- Any use can be cancelled by the driver directly from the driving position.
- A passenger cannot attempt to use the same breakee repeatedly.
At all times, the driver is informed of the system’s status directly from the driving position. Light and sound alerts at each emergency exit are repeated there, thanks to dedicated buttons and indicators.
We recommend not to drive if the red “fault” light is on in the driver’s station.

Breakee has been designed for minimal maintenance: you only need to change the batteries in the breakees located at the emergency exits.
Depending on the use of the vehicle, batteries can last from 1 to 3 years.
We also recommend including checks on the indicator lights and status of the electronic window breakers in drivers’ start and end-of-service procedures.
